Construction Safety Checklist

One of the most important things to have on any worksite is a Construction Safety Checklist. It is considered an easier way of verifying whether the worksite complies with Workplace Health & Safety legislation. At the same time, it must not be forgotten that the legislation vary from state to state and territory to territory. Nevertheless, there are far more similarities than differences between them.

What a Checklist Contains

A checklist contains a list of necessary conditions to ensure Construction Safety for all personnel on the worksite. They are many checklists offered by both organisations and governments alike.

Below is a list of the most essential things a Construction Safety Checklist should contain.

  • Is the worksite fenced off?
  • Is the public protected from any hazards that the site may present?
  • Have all electrical power tools and equipment been tested and approved?
  • Have all electrical leads been tested and tagged?
  • Do you have adequate first aid facilities on site?
  • Are there adequate Construction Signs throughout the site?
  • Are all workers fitted with protective clothing and equipment when required?
  • Are all workers trained and knowledgeable enough to understand the work that they are undertaking?

Bear in mind that the above list is only there to serve as a guide and can be added to according to the needs of each site. Nevertheless, it gives any newbie contractor a good start to assessing Construction Safety.

Construction Safety Plan

Perhaps you would prefer not to worry about a checklist and ticking off each point. There’s nothing wrong with having a Construction Safety Checklist, however, one gets the impression that it just serves to cover bases. You tick all these things off and you’re covered because you’re complying with the legislation. That’s great but it’s a bare minimum. Why not provide your workers with a very safe and assuring work environment?

That’s where a Construction Safety Plan comes in handy. And it can’t be just any plan written up in half an hour. A detailed and professionally written and structured site safety plan is necessary to ensure the best working conditions for personnel on a worksite. Ensafe offers a Safety Plan Template that complies with current Australian OHS legislation and adaptable to all construction worksites.

Instead of a Construction Safety Checklist, you may want to consider using a template for your needs of your worksite.
