Construction Safety Manual

As an active member of the construction industry, chances are that you have come into contact with a Construction Safety Manual before. If you haven’t, it’s probably because your role in the construction project is minimal or because the company or contractor which you are involved with is not complying with Australian OHS Legislation. If your situation is the latter, then it is imperative that you seek to find a safety manual or get one developed as soon as possible.

The consequence for incompliance of Occupational Health & Safety legislation at both the federal and state level can range from a hefty fine to even prosecution. This is certainly something nobody wants to face.

What A Safety Manual Includes

The main objective of a Construction Safety Manual is to identify the potential hazards on a worksite as well as explain the procedures that one should undertake in order to minimise the hazard or respond to it.

Below is a short list of the most common Construction Hazards:

  • Hazardous substances – these include the notoriously famous asbestos dust which is the main cause of lung cancer in construction workers. This can also include silicon dust
  • Electrical equipment – it’s not rocket science to understand that electricity is a dangerous thing that needs to be managed
  • Heat – the Australian summer can be very stifling and needs to be managed for the safety of the workers.

More Construction Safety Information

If you want to find more information on how to properly create a safety manual for your worksite, it might be a good idea to visit one of the leading Australian websites on construction safety.

The Construction Safety Managers & Officers Association is a group of health and safety professionals who have joined forces to provide a better service to those in the industry. You may want to check out the dates for their meetings.

Having a Construction Safety Manual on a worksite is not an option, it is a legal obligation that everyone must embrace.
