Construction Safety Responsibility is all about people getting together and making a commitment to do whatever they can in order to ensure the safety all those working on a construction work site. There are many ways in which this can be achieved and it can happen on various levels: from the top level which is government to the lower level which is comprised of individuals. This article will explore these levels and how a strong sense of responsibility can be created.
Individual Level
This level is all about you and your responsibility when it comes to construction site safety. While you may think that an individual alone has little capacity or ability to ensure good safety levels, the fact remains that a great majority of safety hazards are identified by individuals and not by groups of people higher up. If everyone gets into the spirit of watching out for each other as if was a life or death situation (which it is in construction), then the level of safety on worksites can only increase.
Company Level
Just above the individual is the company which is typically in charge of a worksite. One of the most common ways of committing to ensuring good safety levels is by formulating a construction safety policy. Furthermore, it is the responsibility (according to OHS legislation) of the company to provide construction safety training to all those present on the construction site. If all companies were to enthusiastically take the initiative of providing training, then safety levels can only go through the roof.
Government Level
Finally, the top level of Construction Safety Responsibility is government whose main task is to set out and enact safety legislation, but most importantly enforce it throughout the country or state. However, the irony is that despite it being on the top level of responsibility, it is probably the least effective in ensuring safety (which is more dependent on individuals than anyone else).
Overall, a great sense of Construction Safety Responsibility is best created by all levels working together in a spirit of harmony and integrity.
