Site Safety Rules

Site Safety Rules must be prepared, implemented and displayed on notice boards and other suitable locations on the worksite and be provided to all persons on, and visitors to, the work site.

All employees, subcontractors, suppliers and visitors to the site must abide by the identified site safety rules. Information on the safety rules is given during the site induction training.

The Site Safety Rules are specific to the site work and contents vary, as a minimum must include the following:

• Induction and safety training
• Personal protective equipment
• Site emergency procedures
• Site access and security
• Site facilities

Each trade in the construction industry would have their own specific safety rules for trade related activities; for example site safety rules on:

• Manual handling
• Traffic, mobile plant and pedestrian movement
• Working at heights,
• Using hazardous substances
• Head protection
• Eye protection
• Hearing protection
• Sun protection,
• Loading and unloading plant,
• Drugs and alcohol
• Confined space
• Working in the vicinity of overhead power lines
• Working in the vicinity of underground utilities
• Working from elevated platforms
• Working from scaffolds
• Using high visibility clothing
• Electrical equipment, and

the list goes on and on.

Site safety rules are included in the site induction for the project and should be planned and incorporated in the Construction Safety Plan for the project.

The bottom line is Site Safety Rules must be specific to site, inducted to all person working on site and displayed on noticed boards and other suitable locations in the worksite.
